As fumes choke the sky and warfare and extraction mark Human progress, the Anthropocene threatens to consume life on Earth in multitudes; but extinction and destruction are not assured -- there is hope, for the Earth has its own unseen protectors. Gather with us at the grounds of the Thraycian Temple for the fifth incarnation of Tiny Minotaur Dungeon Synth Nights, as we tap into the unique dimensional pathways opened before us in the Rift to invocate the old spirits whose strength must be drawn to counter the crises of colonial expansion, industrial extraction, and militaristic malevolence.
Nøkken is an ancient guardian spirit known for manifesting in the form of a graceful horse by waterside and luring Human trespassers upon sacred wild places into the waters to drown. Together with Ajatar, the Finnish dragoness, and Peryton, The Black Stag, they comprise Nøkken + The Grim, a primal neofolk trio that weaves pre-Christian Magyar and Norse spirituality and folklore together with animistic folk music and electronic experimentation (appropriated from modernity only in order to extinguish it) to perform atavistic summoning rituals of harrowing sound, striking folkloric imagery, engaging physical theater, and radical narrative.
Dungeon Country sing darkly beautiful songs of grief, bittersweet hymns to desiccated land, and fervent pleas to the cruel heart of Humankind. With a sound that takes cues ranging from the ethereal darkwave of DCD to the melancholia of americana, the post-industrial soundscapes of Coil, and the FM tones of dungeon synth, they conjure a haunting tapestry of paeans to mortality and eternity that can be felt within both the bones of the corporeal and the presences of the unconstituted. Playing in support of the recent release of their full-length, Grief, through the eternal WereGnome Records.
Lost Tales begin the night's ceremony with their first acoustic guitar and (digital) mellotron duo performance (don't worry: no Stairway). Playing a set of pastoral Shiresongs with naivete and wonder in support of the new release of this material's reworking through Engraven Records.
